PEOPLE in the Kagua-Erave and Ialibu-Pangia electorates in Southern Highlands have welcomed the K2 million committed by Imbonggu MP Francis Awesa for a new road.

The people who will benefit from the Mendo Road construction are from the Mendo and Maroro council wards in Kagua-Erave, and Rage Mabi, Pudera, Muku, Pekare and Tiri. The road will link Yalo Bridge from Seven Corner to the Mendo Primary School. It is an important road link for more than 15,000 people living on the border of the two electorates.

Samson Puapona Pondopea from Mendo said the absence of roads had caused hardship for the people.

“The poor state of the roads stop development and services from reaching the people in the communities,” he said.

“For instance, the village people are hindered from being involved in small to medium business activities.  Now the people are so excited after seeing the engineers from the provincial Works department coming there.”
