A GROUP from Angore in Hela is discouraging people from trying to interfere with the operations of the multi-billion kina PNG LNG Project.
Angore Wellhead Leadership Committee (AWLC) chairman John Akipe said he was aware that some members of a community in Angore (PDL 8) had petitioned the Government last month over outstanding benefit payments.
Akipe said a condition of the petition was for a payment of K35 million project security fee, similar to Hides (PDL 1 and PDL 7).
“The petitioners are not landowners of the wellhead, pipelines or valves and therefore cannot provide both long and short-term security to the wellheads,” he said.
“We (AWLC), wellhead clans are happy to work with ExxonMobil PNG Ltd at Angore and provide the usual security.
“We urge the petitioners to cease confusing and threatening the Government for no legitimate reasons.”
AWLC was formed three years ago to provide leadership and dialogue with all stakeholders to address benefits and issues concerning PDL 8. The committee consisted of the Halapura, Imika, Hurupali and Pereke clans.
