People unhappy with power price rise
The National, Friday January 3rd, 2013
CONSUMERS are generally disappointed with another increase in electricity cost imposed on them by PNG Power Ltd.
A random survey conducted in Port Moresby yesterday indicated that the extra cost will put more pressure on the family’s budget.
LILLIAN YALIKTI, Port Moresby: On the old rate, power normally lasts for only two days.
The increase means less power units – not enough for the use of other electrical appliances – only lights.
ANDREW SARA, Rigo businessman: PPL should consider the plight of the majority of people who are in the middle and low-income brackets before increasing tariffs.
DANNY TETU, an employee in the LNG project: PPL is already getting a lot of money.
Probably they are trying to coverup mismanagement.
MOALA NOREFA, Port Moresby: K15 cannot last. It is quite expensive and we are paying more for less.
There should be another company to compete with PPL.
STEVEN EBENOSI, Milne Bay: Every year it seems that PPL increases the electricity tariffs and decreases the units. Is PPL trying to rob us?
It is not considerate of the majority of Easipay-users.
GIBSON NEIMANI, BNG Trading employee: If fees for services such as power are increased, then the Government should increase minimum wages for people to cater for the high cost of living in towns.
APAI HOU, Western: Most of my electrical appliances have been spoilt because of the constant blackouts.
If PNG power wants to increase rates, they should improve their services.
