SOUTH Bougainville MP Timothy Masiu is urging people from his electorate to choose their next leaders carefully.
Masiu, who is also the Information Communications Technology Minister, said the region was going through a critical period in its political development and the people needed a good government.
“It is critical that the people choose a person who has the vision and a person who will to bring Bougainville to the next level,” he said last week during a presentation of K150,000 to improve Buin town’s power supply.
He said as the MP, he would work with whoever won.
Masiu said K1 million for fencing works was already with the district treasury, money which he said he had sourced to develop Buin and South Bougainville.
He said total funding for the market was K5.9 million.
Masiu said after the market, he was looking at sourcing assistance to build a hospital to replace the present dilapidated one, as well as reopening the Buin airstrip.
“All these are in the pipeline and they are the catalyst for change,” he said.
Masiu said the district development authority board decision was a major one because the people, businesses and institutions in the town needed running water and a proper sewerage system. “The town should also have a proper waste disposal plan and service, as well as a treatment plant.”
