THE national Pepes train-on squad will undergo their first high performance camp this weekend at the Sir John Guise stadium in Port Moresby.
This is in preparation for this year’s regional World Cup qualifying series in Cook Islands later this year.
The players will participate in a two-day programme under former Pepe and high performance coach Gima Rupa-Crowdy.
A fitness test and skills development sessions will form part of this first trial.  The top 20 players identified will continue to the next phase of the programme scheduled for the Easter weekend in April.
Papua New Guinea Netball president Julienne Leka-Maliaki said the squad would be reduced to 15 to continue the training programme before the final 12 players are identified for the July 4-7 tournament.
Leka-Maliaki said the federation had seen some positive results in the last 24 months in the areas of capacity building and career pathways for netballers in coaching, umpiring, bench officiating, administrations and athletes programmes.
