NATIONAL coach of the Pacific MMI Pepes Annie Iamo is hoping to select her strong seven from their lead up match in Brisbane to face Pacific giants Fiji.

Coach Iamo told The National yesterday that she was hoping for better results at the Pacific Netball Series in Samoa next week Tuesday when they take on 7th world ranked Fiji in their first match.

“We can’t afford to throw silly passes when we play Fiji. That’s the focus this weekend in our final training sessions, speed work and our passes,” Iamo said.

“If we can at least better our score line compared to last years PNS, I’ll be happy.”

The PMMI Pepes leave at 6am today for Brisbane, Australia where they play two lead up matches before departing for Apia on Sunday.

Iamo said that from these lead up matches, she would be able to work out combinations with the full team in training to select her first seven team line-up for the Fiji game.

“This would be a good time to work out the right combinations in the shooters as most of them train in Australia,” she added.

The PNG PMMI Pepes will play against the Golden Star Jags at 6:30 this evening and the Elite Development Squad (Queensland Netball Academy) tomorrow evening. They will have their last training run on Saturday morning and fly to Apia on Sunday.

The team will be lead by captains Winnie Mavara and Maleta Roberts.

The rest of the squad to the PNS is: Margaret Eka, Kula Iamo, Kilala Owen, Tau Galewa, Kapu Kapi, Tiata Baldwin, Cheryl Renagi, Nerrie Adula, Albertine Ehari, Rayleen Andrew. Non travelling reserves are Richandrah Kassman, Marypaul Beulher and Susan Wellington.

The PNG PMMI Pepes play Samoa on June 5 and Cook Islands the next day.  The team will return to PNG on June 8.
