PETE’S PUNCHLINE

  • Wow, the All Blacks got beat 15-25 by a determined and inspired Argentina at Bankwest Stadium in Sydney. All credit to the Pumas who were outstanding, particularly on defence. That’s some of the best tackling I have seen in test rugby. And to see the tears in some of the Argentinians’ eyes in the final minutes and post match was touching. Everybody loves an underdog.
  • All Blacks coach Ian Foster’s term will be a short one, I’m afraid. You have absolutely no chance if half your time in the job is spent trying to explain why the other side wanted it more than your guys.
  • So All Blacks fans and New Zealnders, I’ll bet are in a tailspin about the result, but I think it’s pretty clear who they blame. The following are comments from the Stuff.co forum: 1. NZRFU need to admit their mistake and ditch Foster the serial loser whose talents are unworthy of the position and can take McLeod the never was with him. Put Plumtree in charge for the final game and line up Razor for the big job next year. 2. The truth is we have an All Black coach, that if he was sacked tomorrow would probably struggle to get any other coaching role. What does that say about the NZRU? The ABs have no chance until the best people available, are put into all positions from the boardroom to the field. 3. I wonder if we could get Jacinda to coach the ABs while she is at it? 4. Speaking of being ruthless, we probably could have won the last 2 games if we took our shots at goal. Not taking them is disrespecting the opposition and disrespecting the jersey. Sam Cane needs to watch re runs of the All Blacks when Sean Fitzpatrick was captain. That’s how you win test rugby, you take the points. Also, anyone with bleach blonde hair or hair tied up should have their heads shaved, aka Christian Cullen. Bring back the rugby head. All Blacks should be hard and uncompromising. That also goes for the pink boots. I don’t care if it’s for kids cancer, suicide prevention or whatever. Pink boots have no place in the All Blacks team. It’s just another soft piece of decision making undermining the core principles of being an All Black. 5. The top rugby nations would love to play this Foster coached team every day of the week.
  • Omaha’s Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford took out England’s Kell Brook in the fourth round of a welterweight matchup at the MGM Grand in Vegas yesterday. Crawford, if any of you have been paying attention, is the same guy who beat up and stopped Aussie Jeff Horn over nine rounds a couple of years ago. Bud needs to fight and beat Errol Spence to secure his legacy as one of the best boxers of the last 10 years.
