THE National Executive Council has appointed Lohial Nuau as the acting Secretary for the Department of Petroleum for three months.
Nuau replaces Kepsy Puiye, who was the acting Secretary for the past two years until last week, when the NEC decided to revoke his acting appointment.
Based on advice from the Minister for Public Service Elias Kapvore, acting Governor-General Job Pomat, through a National Gazette, revoked the acting appointment of Puiye and appointed Nuau as acting Secretary for a period of three months or until a substantial appointment is made.
Pomat said the acting appointment would take effect as of the date of the publication of the appointment instruments in the National Gazette, which was Jan 23, 2019.
Petroleum Minister Fabian Poksaid Nuau was a senior public servant who had spent more than 18 years in the department.
Pok said Nuau had vast experience in and knowledge of the industry.
He said the National Executive Council had seen fit to appoint him after recommendations from the ministerial appointments committee.
Pok called on department staff to give Nuau all the support he needed.
