A LOCAL pharmaceutical company has stepped in to support the Galea Football  Club participating in the annual Eastern Papua Cup soccer tournament in Port Moresby.
Galea, who are the reigning champions of the tournament, will have a tough rivalry this season with more than 42 teams competing.
Toitop Pharmaceuticals Ltd managing director George Toitopola presented a sponsorship package of K2,000 cash, a set of uniforms, first aid kits and transport services for players.
Toitopola said they were happy to support the club because of the commitment it had shown in promoting sportsmen and women for the past 13 years.
He said tournament was one of the avenues for Milne Bay talents to be identified and recruited into the National Soccer League.
Toitopola said he was happy to be part of the drive to promote local talents through sports.
“This tournament has produced a lot of talented players who are now thriving in the NSL. Eastern Stars and Hekari United have the benefit of fielding some these players in their competition.
“I want to see more of our young people showcasing their skills through grassroots sports like the EPC,” he said.
Toitopola said his company believed in promoting unity and oneness at the community level and developing young talents for bigger challenges in life.
He said Galea had proven to be a well disciplined club who had talented young people becoming good ambassadors for sports, especially soccer for Milne Bay people residing in Port Moresby.
Galea community leader Patrick Niebo said it was a great honour to have a company stepping forward to help develop local talents.
“I commend Toitopola for the assistance to Galea community,” he said.
