CITY Pharmacy Ltd (CPL) is building a pharmacy at the Sir Joseph Nombri Kundiawa General Hospital in Chimbu to make medicine easily accessible to sick people.
Outgoing chairman of the Chimbu health authority Robert Nilkare, CPL Group general manager group strategic marketing Kevin Alo and CPL Group general manager for pharmacy sales and merchandising Pradeep Panda officiated at the ground breaking ceremony at the hospital on Tuesday.
Nilkare said the ground-breaking ceremony was his final duty as the chairman as he was resigning to be a general election candidate.
“It is for the greater good of the people,” he said.
Health authority chief executive officer Dr Francis Wandi thanked CPL for the project.
Local leader Joe Gandi said sick people often had to travel as far as Goroka, Mt Hagen and Port Moresby to look for medicine.
“The new pharmacy will put a stop to this,” he said.
