PHONE lines for Lae residents who want to register their interest in employment opportunities in Australia are now open, according to officials.
With an effort to position Lae as a hub for Papua New Guineans to work in Australia, the Australian consulate-general in Lae and Lae City Authority started to recruit young people to go and gain work experience or even get a permanent job in Australia.
Lae MP and Lands and Physical Planning Minister John Rosso said those who are interested could call the LCA office to register.
The telephone numbers to call are 7967 6025, 7967 0764, and 7399 0170. Enquiries can also be sent to [email protected].
Telephone registration is until Friday 4.30pm, he said.
“Applicants need relevant skills, experience and documentation and to meet other requirements such as being aged under 42 years old,” he said.
“The goal is for this exercise to be a pilot, with future opportunities for interested, ambitious and hardworking, young Papua New Guineans to find work in Australia.”
LCA chief executive officer Neill Ellery said the opportunity was there to pick up skills and those skills could be transferred back into PNG which would be fantastic.
