PAPUA New Guinea students in Cebu, Philippines, interested in photography have been encouraged to take part in a photo contest organised by Paradise International Education Consultancy.

Last month, PNG students witnessed the world-renowned Sinulog Festival celebrated in Cebu and which attracts three million local and foreign tourists every year.

The Paradise Sinulog photo competition 2014 aims to boost confidence and self-esteem among the students through photography.

The street parade showcases dancing and costumes, festive music, decorated floats, and giant colourful puppets – a perfect time for portraits.

Paul Galia is one of the PNG students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration majoring in Financial Management at the University of Southern Philippines.

“The grand parade transformed the normal, humdrum streets of Cebu to alleys bursting with life and colour,” he said.

“The photo contest is very timely and this is a great opportunity for PNG students here in Cebu City. Aside from enjoying the festival, we got a chance to participate and test our skills in photography.
