PHYSICAL planners in the Department of Lands and Physical Planning are attending a week-long week conference in Kokopo, East New Britain.
This conference was last held 10 years ago in the National Capital District.
It is understood that all physical planners, especially those in provincial administrations and urban local level governments, were invited.
With the theme “Refocusing and enabling sustainability of the physical planning system in PNG: Planning beyond 2020”, the conference aims at interpreting the theme by looking at the physical planning system, the way it is compared to what and how it used to be done in the past with the view of making improvements and incorporating a system that can best address new changes.
Department quality control and standard officer Linus Billy said the conference was an assessment and evaluation of all physical planning systems.
He said since the last conference in 2002, a range of physical planning issues and challenges had affected the profession and system in the country.
Billy said issues that would be discussed during the conference were population, urban planning, strategic and development planning in a sustainable manner in the world globalisation and climate change.
