MORE than 700 employees of Fletcher Morobe Ltd are on a week-long strike in Port Moresby, they say.
It began on Saturday and they claimed a petition they presented to the management of the company on Monday was not addressed.
They want a pay rise conforming to standards set out in the amended minimum wage act.
The group fronted at The National office in Port Moresby on Tuesday, at 11am, with placards claiming their grievances were not addressed as expected, a spokesman said.
The group walked from the company site at 6-Mile to Waigani to demand:
- A pay rise in accordance with the amended minimum wage rate;
- improved banking as early as Friday morning for security reasons; and,
- Provision of proper safety gear, equipment and uniforms.
The workers said they would remain on strike which could further delay construction or upgrading of Pacific Games facilities.
