Pickpocket activities on the rise in Moresby

Letters, Normal

IT is worrying to see an increase in pickpocket activities in Port Moresby.
This is causing fear for the public as their freedom of movement within the nation’s capital has been somewhat compromised.
I must say the culprits are taking advantage of the situation.
It is especially worrying if you are at the bus-stops and main shopping spots as these are the main areas where the pickpockets hang out, waiting for the opportunity to steal from workers and ordinary people who sweat to earn a kina.
This is a threat and I am fearful of going from one place to another the freedom to move within my country is no longer secure.
Many people have lost valuable items such as money, mobile phones, cameras, MP3 players, etc.
Sadly many have kept quiet and that has emboldened the pickpockets.
I call on the police to step up their foot patrols, especially at the hotspots.
We live in a democratic country and such feeling of fear and threat should not be tolerated.
Let us make Port Moresby a better and safer place for everyone to live and move around.
