Pickpocketing an ongoing issue

Letters

PICKPOCKETING is an ongoing issue on the rise in the city and no one is really interested to solve this issue.
It has been happening in the two cities – Mt Hagen and Lae for the last two decades.
This time around, its the markets in Port Moresby – Gordon, Manu, Koki and the hotspot – Erima Overhead Bridge.
Mothers, girls, elderly men and children are victims of continuous pickpocketing in the city as per reports.
Those who are suspects in this activity are street vendors along the bus stops. Others you can suspect them by their outward appearance.
Who is accountable for the increase in this activity?
Many will say the national government or the provincial government!
Yes we can say both of them because they are responsible authorities who can deal with such issues.
However, the foremost authorities who can solve this very issue within a slit seconds are the individual citizens living in the city.
This can only be solved in a community level by taking the right ownership.
Just because we are not taking the right ownership in the country, things are getting worse.
We ask for solutions from the government which is not the answer.
Let’s help ourselves and ask government for solution.
