A COURT has informed Australian pilot David John Cutmore facing criminal charges relating to his alleged involvement in the K200 million drug bust in July that he can apply for bail at the National Court on medical grounds as he is ill and needs immediate medical attention.
Central Committal Court Magistrate Laura Kuvi said this after Cutmore’s lawyer Agnes Peter, from the Public Solicitors office, made an application for her client’s case to be separated from his other co-accused, all facing charges in relation to the drug smuggling.
Peter said Cutmore was diagnosed with several illnesses, including arthritis, and was on medication that could only be sourced overseas.
Peter said the application was to allow the police to fast-track investigations on Cutmore’s case due to the state of health.
“The basis of the application to have Cutmore’s case adjourned to a separate date as the others was because of his medical condition,” Peter said.
Magistrate Kuvi said the District Court had no power to consider Cutmore’s application and told Peter to provide the medical reports and apply for bail in the National Court.
Meanwhile, Peter said her client had no place to stay in the country if he was granted bail.
“Cutmore has not given me any instructions to make a bail application, basically, because he has no place to stay,” she said.
Magistrate Kuvi said the only person responsible to release Cutmore was the minister for immigration and border security.
The matter was adjourned to Dec 1 for further mention.

  • This criminal is ripping what he planted to destroy human beings. Drugs are worse destroying many people around the world. Please remember that we get paid accordingly to what we do.

  • Every time when people have money and convicted of their crimes we read reasons stating on the medical grounds, on the medical grounds. True true on the medical ground o!

  • Do not believe this silly argument.
The court should ask his lawyer to produce his current medical history and the medications he is taking.
The defence lawyer can obtain medical record from his client’s doctor in Australia. All medications cam be flown up from Australia.
The defence lawyer can see Australian High Commission for assistance to get in touch with the doctor in Australia.
He looks obese so I suspect just has osteoarthritis which can be treated with any standard pain killers such as ibuprofen or indocid and we have abundance of them at any of the pharmacies in Moresby.

  • I assume that’s an escape plan, if he is bailed, then all the rest imprisoned for the K200m worth drug smuggling case can be granted bale, who is David John Cutmore anyway. If the court grants bail for Cutmore alone, then that’s bias and relegating your own country citizens to favor an expert who has bridged international laws. I do accept his own right to appeal for bail but it’s fair if he appears before the court for the offence and the court can assess his involvement in this syndicate and if it’s not very serious he can be allowed bail but otherwise he compared to the nationals who have just been the acomplish.

  • The yacht Badu is sitting empty in Port Moresby. he could ask for using a bed in it from its Italian owner who too is awaiting court since the crashed cocaine plane bust

  • Oh what??…Seeking medication overseas now?.. I thought he brought drug into PNG already, why not give him his own drug, that might cure!….hahaha!
