Pinampio races home in 32:21 ahead of Mitiche
The National – Wednesday, July 13th 2011
PORT Moresby Road Runners raced over 2km and 7.7 km from the TNT depot near Jacksons Airport last Saturday.
Cool conditions for the 5pm start enabled runners to stride off confidently, running past both terminals with good pace, particularly eventual winner Swans Pinampio who romped in 32:21.
Returning from a lay-off, Abdoullah Mitiche ran strongly to the top of Radar Hill, but Pinampio had established such a lead with his sprint start that the big Algerian was unable to rein him in, and he came second in 33:24.
Megan Hardy made it two wins in two weeks, taking out the women’s race. Luana Frate was the second girl home.
The tough climb up Radar Hill sorted the good from the not so good, and consequently the field was spread significantly by the time the last runner had come home.
Next Saturday’s races leave from Ela Beach Tower at 5pm for courses over 2.2, 4.1 and 8.6 kms.
