VETERAN Swans Pinampio won the Port Moresby Road Runners’ town to airport half marathon yesterday morning in a time of 1’29:19.
His closest rival, James Gurumi, was more than 10 minutes behind.
Andrew Elborn did his best to catch Mairi Feeger as they sprinted the last few hundred meters from Steamships headquarters to the Post Office.
However, Elborn had spent too much energy to catch up to Feeger, and the artist/athlete surged past Elborn in the last 30m to claim third place.
Despite taking a wrong turn to run the extra climb up to the Crowne Plaza, Stephanie Copus-Campbell, in short black shorts and a lovely orange top, was the fastest female.
Sixteen of the 19 starters made the distance including the visiting Phil Moore, in town for only one day.
However, Moore openly questioned the judgment of local runners taking off for such distances in the heat.
Titus Tobia won Saturday’s 4.8km races at Badihagwa.
Next Saturday’s race is the amazing “half hour of power” at Sir John Guise Stadium.
Starting time is 5pm and the entry fee remains 20 toea.
