SP HUNTERS prop Mark Pitti says leaving his family behind for eight or nine months and relocating to the Gold Coast for the 2021 Intrust Super Cup (ISC) was a tough call for him and he aims to focus on achieving the team’s goal.
The Hanuabada man is in his second season in the Hunters set-up after making his debut last season, however, he only played a match before the ISC season was called off because of Covid-19.
Piti said he was nervous as a rookie last season but almost a year had passed and he had tucked a Digicel Cup season under his belt and a full pre-season of training and he was ready to make the most of his second chance.
“It feels great that I played my first game with the Hunters last season. I was a bit nervous then but the good thing now is that I have prepared well and I’m ready to play,” the burly front-rower said.
Pitti said he was learning more about being a professional footballer under second-year coach Matthew Church.
“His (Church’s) advice to the team is that you have learn to do better every day meaning that you have to work hard to earn your spot in the team. There are some new things I learned from him like adjusting to the game speed and keeping up with the system.” Pitti said he was grateful to be part of the team and acknowledged the coaching staff and management. Pitti said as long as the team prepare mentally they will achieve their goal.
