Place troops at border

Letters

I support the call by Prime Minister James Marape to position the PNG Defence Force troops and mobile police to manage the spillovers at the PNG-Indo border as a measure to safeguard PNG citizens from the tense situation in Papua.
The National Security Council within the National Executive Council should convene and authorise an immediate deployment.
All funding for non-essential activities should be put on hold and diverted for this operation.
It’s a common intervention practiced in land locked conflict regions of Africa, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia and South America.
PNG, despite a small force, should show its presence at the border to protect its citizens.
