THE Yelia local level government in Obura-Wonenara district, Eastern Highlands, has launched its five-year development plan.

Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso launched the plan at Simbari station and commended Yelia LLG president Rex Wendaji for coming up with the plan in spite of the remoteness of the area.

She said the plan was consistent with her bottom-up approach – from the council wards, LLGs, province and the Government.

Soso said the plan would guide the delivery of services to the people during her term.

“Without such important plans, political and administrative leaders work on an ad-hoc basis and operate in the dark,” she said.

Soso committed K50,000 to the Simbari village court, K20,000 to the Simbari Health Centre and K10,000 to the Simbari Primary School.

Wendaji said he was confident about the plan and would try to get funding not only from the Government but also non-government organisations and agencies.

He thanked Soso for flying into the remote area to launch the plan which  indicated her seriousness to see people in the outbacks receiving services.

Wendaji said more than 6,000 people lived in Simbari.

“I appeal to the people of Yelia LLG to accept the changes and focus in the right direction for growth and prosperity,” he said.

Attending the launching were district government officials and public servants.
