A PLAN is under way for the Works division in Morobe to upgrade the 3km section of Busu road from Bumbu Bridge to the Malahang Industrial area in Lae.
Provincial Works manager Samson Apai said they would start work on the plan after the completion of the section of Independence Drive between the University of Technology and Tent City.
“Lae MP and Minister for Lands and Physical Planning John Rosso and the Government has made funding available to upgrade the road,” he said.
Apai said this was one of the key priority roads that the National Works Department would be looking at upgrading.
He said it would take time but slowly major roads in Lae city would be fixed and improved.
He said at the moment, they were working on the cost of the upgrade and the designing of other road features.
The road, once reconstructed, will be all in concrete.
“Bus stops, street lights, drains and road signs have to be all implemented at the same time when the reconstruction work gets off the ground,” Apai said.
He said traffic congestion caused by the road works would be mitigated by the extension of bus stops and other features.
