OPERATIONAL planning is well underway for Papua New Guinea to host the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in November and December this year.

A team from the local organising committee travelled to the Zurich FIFA headquarters to attend meetings with their FIFA counterparts.

Local organising committee chief executive officer Seamus Marten travelled with a team of officials in the areas of security, medical, competition, broadcast and media personnel from the LOC.

Marten said the meeting enabled key functional areas of the LOC to discuss important issues with FIFA counterparts.

“It was a very fruitful workshop and an important milestone for the LOC as we draft our concept of operations across the various functional areas.”

FIFA has an established hosting model with clear guidelines so it is important that the LOC understands these expectations and provides a PNG solution where appropriate, said Marten.

Papua New Guinea will be hosting the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup from Nov 13 to Dec 3.

There are 16 nations who have qualified for this tournament.

They are: France, Spain and Sweden (UEFA – Europe); Japan, North Korea and South Korea (AFC – Asia); Ghana, Nigeria (CAF – Africa); Brazil and Venezuela (CONMEBOL – South America); host PNG and New Zealand (OFC – Oceania); USA, Canada and Mexico (CONCACAF – North America)
