JIWAKA is finalising its medium term development plans, Governor William Tongamp told journalists in Minj on Tuesday.

Tongamp said he would present the plan to authorities in Port Moresby on July 27.

He said the 2014 Jiwaka provincial budget, which was due, would be drawn out using the medium term development plan so that whatever money came from the national Government would be used for projects outlined in the plan.

“The plan is very important and will give us direction as to how my government and administration will go about developing the province,” he said.

“I want to appeal to Jiwaka people to help themselves by contributing to the developments of the province. We can’t sit back and expect others to come in and do it for us.”

He told the people to do what they could to build the province.

Tongamp commended his people for changing their mindsets and keeping the peace and harmony while he was fighting his election petition court battles.

He said for a year he had been going in and out of court rooms and the Jiwaka people had not caused any disturbances like previously.

Tongamp said by next month he would provide a report on what he had done in the past year and what he planned to do for the remainder of his term.
