Plans for new tuna cannery

 THE Manus provincial government plans to have a tuna cannery established in the province.

Manus provincial administrator Andrew Posong said Prime Minister Peter O’Neill had made a commitment to build a cannery in the province to improve its economy.

“We plan to have the cannery in the western part of Manus because that’s where it’s more relevant and suitable,” he said.

“If you look at Manus town, there’s no strong current to take the waste out. When you compare it with Madang, there’s a lot of waste from the canneries in the bay and it’s attracting sharks,” he said.
