PLANS are underway to start women’s rugby league competitions next year.
With such a plan, the women have one way or another taken part in playing rugby league but not to the extent of further representation or publicity.
And with the plan to run a women’s competition next year, president Wendy Kohun is planning to hold  the annual general meeting in Lae on  Jan 22.
Kohun, in a letter sent to The National, stated that the objective of the meeting was to invite interested stakeholders with the main agenda which is the establishment of the PNGWRFL and further development programmes of the WRFL.
Women’s rugby league competition is now played in Goroka, Lae and Port Moresby while Mt Hagen has started its competition.
Kohun said representatives from each centres were preparing to attend the AGM.
The five centres gearing up are Wabag, Mt Hagen, Goroka, Lae and Port Moresby.
Despite not officially recognised by the PNGRFL, they are keen to have their own competition and will submit a petition during the PNGRFL AGM in Lae soon.
