Lareva market in Hohola Port Moresby is in the plan to become the next big market like Gordon market will be, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop says.

“We are going to put out a tender for expressions of interest,” Parkop told The National last Sunday.

“So we are inviting interests like BOT (build, operate, transfer) or maybe we could lease out some part of the land to some business houses so in return they don’t pay us rent but they build the market at their cost,” Parkop said.

“Lareva market is on the land that is quite big, so I want a similar market to the one that will be built at Gordon.

He said Gordon market would be multiple- storeyed, with space  vegetables, meat,  fish also other products and produce.

He also spoke of the market containing possible a food court and facilities like banking, mobile phone, hair salons and police post.

The plan is to have space for 600 car parks downstairs and trucks delivering crops and vegetables.

“The Lands Department should give us the extra land but it’s not easy to get land from Lands,” he said. “I am confident that when the market is completed, it will add value for the people.”
