THERE will be a plastic waste clean-up campaign at the end of the month, organised by the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (Cepa).
It is partnering with the National Capital District Commission and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency in Port Moresby.
The campaign was part of the plan to ban the use of plastics in the country, said Minister for Environment and Conservation and Climate Change John Pundari. It will run until December when a review will be made.
The campaign will target communities around Hanuabada village. It will be supported by Ela Motors, Steamships Trading Company, Daikoku Restaurant, Japanese Association and PNG Cancer Society.
“The clean-up campaign will progress towards the outskirts of Port Moresby over the coming months and will extend from Gereka and the surrounding communities to Koukou near Baruni,” Pundari said.
School children will be engaged to conduct awareness campaigns on the values of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The campaign will be conducted in the forms of speeches, songs and the cleaning of plastic rubbish.
Pundari said the NCDC was organising garbage bags and transport for the rubbish collected.
