PRIME Minister James Marape says his Government aims to deliver electricity to 70 per cent of the country by 2025.
He said this during the launch of National Energy Policy 2017 to 2027 yesterday in Port Moresby.
“The National Electrification Roll Out Plan aims to deliver electricity to 70 per cent of our people and country by 2030 and our Vision 2050 is electricity for all by 2050. My government aims to deliver electricity to 70 per cent of our country by 2025,” Marape said.
“Electricity is a key enabler for economic and human development. And we have started that work already without waiting on anyone.
“Without cheap and reliable electricity, our country will not progress.
“My Government aims to deliver electricity to 70 per cent of our people by 2025, when our nation celebrates 50 years of independence,” he said.
“I envisage a national and regional power grid that overlays with our major highways and feeder power lines that runs with our provincial and district roads that exist and the new ones we are building.”

  • Total lunacy.
Frequent blackouts in POM and most towns just getting worse every year. Started when you were with your mentor PO.
    Stop the mauswara.

  • “We have started that work already without waiting for anyone!” That sounds good PR but PM have you forgotten your May 26 meeting about…
‘The Papua New Guinea Electrification Partnership (PEP) project is a $1.7b aid program financed and supported by Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the US. It aims to connect 70 per cent of PNG’s population to electricity by 2030. The partnership was sealed during the November 2018 APEC Leaders’ Summit in Port Moresby’.

  • PM J. Marape, you should thank former PM Peter Onel for hosting APEC meeting. This project was funded through the MOA signed by 3 APEC leaders; Japan, New Zealand and USA during the APEC meeting. Something you should give credit where it’s due.

  • I think it is not necessary unless you have closed deals….. Roads/Schools and Hospitals are the main
    areas to be well facilitated

  • JM maski lo mauswara tumas. This Electrification will be funded by overseas counterparts. You have not even tried to de-escalate covid-19 and yet started talking about another bringing electricity to rural areas. Get your priorities right. JM you seemed to be confused.

  • Policy, Policy, Policy – wonem taem ba ol policy lusim pepa na ofis na kam wokabaot ples klia lo rot na ol man/meri lukim na filim gut.

Stop the frequent black outs currently experience by the 13% first, otherwise up to 70% and all will continue to experience the same.

“…..lack of funding for upgrading and rehabilitation and even for routine maintenance….”

Stop political interference and appoint capable persons who can manage and sustain PNG Power, enough of being a liability to the state

  • Subcontracts some of the Services of PNG Power. Such as connection, installation, off grids, and PNG Power monitor the work of those services contractors. I believe our electrical services will improve to 80 percent.
