PRIME Minister James Marape has assured the people of East New Britain that the Government will allocate K5 million to maintain roads destroyed by floods.
He was responding to questions raised in Parliament yesterday by East New Britain Governor Nakikus Konga on the delay in the allocation of disaster funds to his province.
Marape said the funds had been budgeted but held back because of the cash flow problem.
Konga said three months ago, the provincial government received a cheque for K5 million but it was dishonoured by the bank.
He added K17.8 million had been allocated by the Government for the maintenance of roads and bridges.
But they were still waiting for the funds.
Marape said the funds would become available after the supplementary budget was tabled in Parliament.
“K5 million was allocated but due to cash flow issue the cheque has not been represented yet,” Marape said.
