PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill is fully supporting the development of Hayfield Airport in Maprik, East Sepik.
O’Neill made that known to the people of Maprik at the groundbreaking ceremony yesterday.
He said he would support Maprik MP John Simon to see the project get off the ground.
He told more than 3,000 people from all over Central Sepik that the airport was one of the important infrastructures under the transport sector.
“I want to commend your member John Simon for initiating this impact project as it will help the entire population in this part of Central Sepik,” O’Neill said.
He said health and education were important programmes in the government’s basic service delivery.
“There is no more time for politics but there is time for work as our people in the remotest part of this district needs basic government services,” O’Neill said.
K5 million was allocated for the airport project and the money came from the District Services Improvement Programme.
MPs Richard Maru, Salio Waipo and Gawi Joseph contributed K1 million from their budgets and Sir Michael promised to give his share.
O’Neill will present K6 million to kick-start the programme soon.
