PRIME Minister James Marape says election officials must ensure that the Moresby North-West by-election today is free and fair. “Port Moresby North West is the most educated electorate and easier to supervise as far as elections are concerned from logistic to management of the voting process. “I appeal to those managing the electoral system, the election commissioner, those on duty at polling and counting stations, to ensure that the by-election is free and fair.
“Let us deliver Moresby North-West in the fairest, transparent and most legal manner. For those participating in the electoral process, especially voters, it is your time. “You have heard me, campaign party leaders, candidates speak but the right to vote is an important right that is given by the country’s Constitution. “Section 50 of our Constitution allows you to vote for a leader you feel best to represent you for the balance of this term in preparation for the 2022 election.
“I appeal to those conducting elections to ensure a corrupt-free electoral process.“We will be keeping watch.
“There is a reform that the Government will conduct towards the end of this year, passing laws and penalties to those who conduct elections with any element of impropriety or illegal activity.” Marape encouraged voters to turn up to vote. “Do not be influenced by money,” he said. “Do not be influenced by politics. “Do not be influenced by me. “Pick the best candidate to represent you in the next few months as we head for 2022.”
