PRIME Minister James Marape has committed K5 million towards rebuilding the paediatric, nutrition and tuberculosis (TB) wing of the East Sepik health authority.
The commitment came after his tour of the hospital in Wewak last week.
He realised that work on rebuilding the hospital’s particular wing did not start due to lack of funding.
“Building on what you have already done, we will find K5 million to complete the project,” he said.
East Sepik Allan Bird explained to Marape that funding to complete the paediatric, nutrition and TB wing was cut after they received funding to start another wing of the hospital, a different project.
Marape assured East Sepik Health Authority chief executive officer Mark Mauludu and Bird that the Government would do its best to get the funding to them, as long as they submitted required paperwork to him to send to concerned agencies.
In 2018, then-prime minister Peter O’Neill launched a K300 million redevelopment project for the hospital.
The K300 million was understood to be a loan from the European Union which aimed to give the hospital a facelift after 50 years.
