PM: Digital age ahead

Business

CYBER security is important considering that most businesses will be conducted online in the future, says Prime Minister James Marape.
Marape was addressing the 2020 PNG Security Congress yesterday in Port Moresby.
“Security in that area gives security to those that do businesses in that area,” he said.
Marape said it was important for organisations who were interfacing with the country’s economy to be aware of the digital age and the importance of both physical and cyber security.
“We must be conscious, cognizant and aware of the time we are in and the importance of digital security,” he said.
“Many times when we talk about security, we think about the physical aspect only, but it culminates ecommerce or digital commerce and health.”
Marape said life in the cyberspace was very much the future of Papua New Guineans.
“But with fast advancement, there is always a vacuum to be totally savvy in the sector,” he said.
“It is important for such discussions to ensure that the country is secured from insecurities going into the future. The future is all about doing business and services online and so a secured environment in that space is very important.”
Marape said the Government must know of “any deficiencies we currently have in our systems so that we can fix them”.
“The correct advice from the digital space is important for us because having security in that area gives security in the way business is conducted.”
