PRIME Minister James Marape told the National Court yesterday that he has forgiven the man who allegedly posted threats against him on social media.
But he said it was a matter for the court to make a ruling on.
“I as an individual forgive Dominic Aku Jason for what he did,” Marape said.
“But the threat was not just against me.
“It was also against the sitting prime minister of this country.
“And a threat against the prime minister should be taken seriously,” the Tari-Pori MP said.
Marape was asked to make a statement in court during Jason’s trial.
Marape said he was alerted to the social media post through people’s complaints.
“Facebook is a public dominion and there were a lot of complaints about that post.
“So I reported the matter to the police to look into it,” he said.
“And also the threat to kill is life threatening.
“When the threat was posted, it was not just against James Marape but also against the office of prime minister which I hold.”
It is alleged that on July 29, 2020, Jason used a Facebook account Nicky Jason and posted in Team O’Neil Work Mas Go Yet Facebook group: “PMJM, you need to step down a.s.a.p before bullet penetrate your head”.
Marape confirmed that the PMJM was the initial he used for himself.
But he said he used Facebook under his own name but was not a follower of the group “Team O’Neil Work Mas Go Yet”.
