PM: Free education, health are priorities
The National, 27th October 2011
PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has been travelling throughout Momase observing and experiencing the level of developments taking place in the region.
Since taking office in August, O’Neill had travelled the nation assuring people of the government’s commitment to restoring long-neglected services.
“Our government cannot deliver miracles in this short time but we have identified several priority areas that we will concentrate on to improve the livelihood of our people,” the prime minister said in Menyamya, Morobe, last Sunday.
“These priority areas are free education, improved quality of healthcare, efficient delivery of law, order and justice services and improved development and maintenance of economic infrastructures.”
O’Neill said developing human resources was vital and that was why the government had made free education a top priority.
He said health was another priority area.
“Basic services such as the delivery of medicines must reach all the districts in the country,” O’Neill said.
He said maintenance of law, order and justice was important in fighting corruption.
He committed K12 million for a hydro-power supply plant and assured the people that the government would find K20 million in the 2012 budget to upgrade the road from Menyamya to Lae.
