PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill yesterday expressed disappointment at the non-appearance of several Government leaders at a national leaders’ summit in Port Moresby.
O’Neill said their absence from the important summit was unacceptable when it was hosted for them to discuss and exchange views with stakeholders and development partners.
The National noted that some governors, ministers and government department heads were missing as their name tabs were still at the registration table.
O’Neill called on the leaders to be committed. “Everything comes through hardwork, commitment and perseverance. Sometimes we are too complacent. You look at some of our leaders who are not here today. If you don’t show commitment, how can you expect others to be committed?” the prime minister asked.
“We must be timely in making sure that we are there to deliver to the expectations of our people. Our people again will judge us in 2022. And as I have always said, our return will only depend on our performances. If you don’t perform, you don’t deserve the people’s respect. That is why we all must work together. Don’t expect only one person to deliver to your expectation.”
O’Neill said many departmental heads were retained since the Somare government for stability in delivering government services.
“Our economy is on solid foundations. There is renewed confidence in the investors trying to invest in our country.”
