FREE primary education is here to stay, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill says.
He told the huge crowd gathered at the National Park in Goroka yesterday that another K350 million would be released to schools by June this year.
O’Neill arrived in Goroka in the morning to attend his People’s National Congress Party national convention at the University of Goroka.
He said his government saw the education of young children as very important because they were future leaders.
“Politics will not affect the education of young children of this country.
“The free education policy will continue in 2013 and will extend up to Grade 12 in 2014,” he said.
With good education, the quality of life of future PNG citizens will be improved.
He urged the people to elect good candidates into government so the country had good leaders.
“You must elect good leaders because in 2013 and 2014, PNG’s resources sector will enable our economy to grow, the revenue generated will be doubled and tripled.
“We need good leaders to deliver to the people,” he said.
He said revenue generated will be parked in the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) to be distributed across the country for the benefit of everyone.
Goroka community leader Kopi Manove urged O’Neill to “give more teeth to Task Force Sweep to eliminate corruption”.
PNC has 22 MPs coming to the convention as well as intending candidates who will be running the party’s ticket in the general election.
