PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has thanked Ok Tedi Mining Limited for the K50 million it donated to the earthquake relief and restoration effort.
Yesterday, he received the cheque from OTML chairman Sir Moti Avei and managing director Peter Graham.
“Ok Tedi is wholly owned and operated by the people of our country, and it is very fitting that it is providing this significant funding towards disaster relief and restoration efforts,” he said.
Meanwhile, his People’s National Congress Party will also hold a fundraising dinner next month to support the relief efforts.
O’Neill said members were rallying together to support the disaster victims.
“We have already seen generous support from the private sector both in donations and contributions in kind through the provision of goods and services,” he said.
“The PNC Red Ball for Earthquake Relief will be an opportunity for the PNC Party to bring together our supporters to raise funds for people during their time of need.”
The dinner will be held at the Sir John Guise indoor stadium on April 14.
“The evening will include entertainment and opportunities for businesses to make a contribution, as well as to provide further information to the business community on relief activities,” O’Neill said.
He said the PNC was the largest political party in Parliament and had a duty to support the efforts of the Government and disaster relief workers.
“We all have to make a contribution in any way we can, and this is one of a number of activities being undertaken by our members as a party alongside individual efforts currently underway,” he said.
