IT was first of its kind when the four franchise owners of the PNG Men’s Basketball League received their share of the gate-takings last  week.
PMBL is setting the standard and level in the country as the first league to give something back to the clubs.
After nine weeks of competition, Moni Plus Tamaraws received the highest amount of K2,000-plus, with Exodus, Saints and Chariots getting slightly lesser amounts.
The 80% boon for the four franchises was introduced by the PMBL board under its competition regulation, with the league taking the remaining 20%.
A board member and co-founder Boyet Daroya said Tamaraws benefited the most because their die-hard supporters attended all their games.
Daroya said the PMBL aimed to develop its players, team management and supporters to be disciplined.
He said selections were based on discipline, attitude and character and players and team managements should be aware of that.
The four franchises have their own package of payment for their respective players, with competition leaders Exodus enjoying on an unbeaten run to date.
