PM’s Golf Challenge for Rio drive
THE annual Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge tees off today at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club course in Waigani, Port Moresby.
The tournament, which The National has co-sponsored by providing t-shirts, is a fundraiser which the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee uses to raise money to help Team PNG attend major international events.
This year’s edition is geared at raising money for the national contingent’s participation at the Rio Olympics.
The country’s prime minister is the lead golfer and his association with the event ensures significant support from the corporate sector.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is expected to appear briefly to officially tee off.
More than 30 corporate teams are expected to play the Ambrose format called the Texas scramble.
Registration is at 10am today with the tee off scheduled for 11am.
An auction will be held at the club house as the first results are announced.
Proceeds from the auction will go to Team PNG for their trip to Brazil in August. The Trukai Fun Run is the PNGOC’s other major fundraiser while Lae will also have a similar golf and fun run.
