THE Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) ended its season on Sunday after four months of competition across nine divisions.
PMSA acting president Joseph Ealedona commended the clubs and supporters for putting together a successful end to the country’s premier club competition.
“I hail our competition manager Paul Karambi and his team for the administration of the games every week. “Also our treasurer Thomas Taberia for his management of our funds that has got us through a rough season.”
Ealedona said the PMSA would be reviewing the league system which has been in effect for the second season with no finals.
“We — clubs, players and stakeholders — are conscious about the system we had trialled over the past two seasons,” he said.
“We brought the system in to push teams to be competitive throughout the season and to treat every match as a grand final rather than picking four teams to play in the finals.
“I have announced a club delegates meeting to review our competition format and fees for next year.”
Ealedona urged clubs to settle their outstanding registration fees for the season. He said PMSA executives had decided that clubs would face penalties and relegation if they failed to pay up.
Meanwhile, Ealedona said the recent banning of former PMSA president John Gonjuan was a tough blow for the competition and he announced that a special congress would be held on Nov 24 to elect a new president to lead the association.
