PMV association hits out at overcharging drivers
The National, Tuesday July 22nd, 2014
National Capital District PMV and Taxi Association chairman Jack Waso says all bus fares charged by buses are 80t and not more.
He urged the authorities to monitor all public motor vehicles.
“Whether you take a long or shorter route in the city, the rate has been fixed by the transport authority at 80t. PMV operators who are charging between K1 and K2 are ripping off passengers and the transport and traffic management divisions must look into this issue,” Waso said.
He said he was concerned that drivers and crews were collecting bus fares at their own will, which was unacceptable. “If they say prices of fuel or car parts are increasing, then the proper bodies to look into this issue and approve the bus fares would be the Transport Division and Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC).”
He expressed dissatisfaction that no traffic or transport officers were monitoring buses and taxis.
Waso called for all PMV and taxi operators to attend a meeting on Sunday, July 27, at Unagi Oval from 2-4pm to discuss how best to manage public transport for next year’s Pacific Games.
