The Public Motor Vehicle Association is appealing to PMV owners to join the association to access vital trainings.
PMV Association Administration and Operations Manager, Simon Kunamen said the benefits of joining the association were good as there would be trainings of owners, drivers, crews and bus stop wardens.
Speaking during the PMV Association’s first information session in Port Moresby last week, he said owners needed to join the association to have access to vital trainings which would improve the standard of public transport.
“Being part of the association helps owners to be better managers and to provide more safer, effective and reliable service.
“Other benefits include getting a license and forming of companies.”
He said currently the association has 87 members made up of companies, cooperatives and individual bodies.
“The association has secured funding from UN Women PNG to train owners, drivers, crews and bus stop wardens.”
He said the programme would also see training facilitated by stakeholders such as the Road Traffic Authority, Police Traffic, National Capital District Commission, Independent Consumer and Competition
Commission and UN Women.
Kunamen said the association was formed to provide:

  • Safe public transport in the city;
  • To attract local and international visitors; and to
  • Pave the way for a better, safe, reliable system for the future.

He said the association has plans to train owners on:

  • Basic cash management skills;
  • Human Resource; and
  • Basic public transport management.
