PMV owners should protect passengers

OVER the Easter weekend, a pregnant mother from Ialibu in SHP who was travelling alone from Lae to Mt Hagen at night was abducted and raped by a Western Highlands PMV driver and crew, then held hostage at his village in Baisu.
Her husband and relatives carried out a search and she was later released with the help of the suspect’s neighbours.
The incident has been reported to the Mt Hagen police and the suspects have been apprehended.
I appeal to PMV owners and operators to be more responsible for the well-being of their passengers, especially women, who are easy targets.
I strongly condemn the actions of these brainless lunatics.
The police must deal with the case prudently to deter future attempts.
