PNC vows change for Goroka

PEOPLE’S National Congress (PNC) leader Peter O’Neill says the people of Goroka now have the chance to elect a candidate, Henry Ame, at the upcoming by-election, who will work to bring back free education, restore healthcare and build infrastructure.
O’Neill said Ame and PNC would fight to fix the damage that had been inflicted by the current government over the past year, including the Porgera mine closure in Enga that had impacted other Highlands provinces.
“It is only a PNC-led Government that has truly delivered in the past and our work will continue,” he told supporters at a campaign rally recently.
He said the party delivered on its promises to the people of Goroka by rebuilding the Goroka airport, upgrading the Goroka hospital and improving one of the country’s premier tertiary institutions, the University of Goroka.
“With Henry Ame as the Member for Goroka, our work will continue and we will keep changing lives for the better.”
O’Neill said under a PNC MP, Goroka would also have a new stadium as well as seeing improvements to vital infrastructure such as the Highlands Highway.
He said over the past 12 months, the country had faced hardships and economic struggles because of poor management by the government.
O’Neill highlighted schools and health centres that had been impacted by a lack of funding.
He said Ame had the credentials and experience to be an effective leader and urged the people to vote him.
“I want the people of Goroka to re-elect Henry Ame,” he said.
“We (PNC) have 17 MPs now, he will come and make it 18 and we will get the government back and continue to deliver much needed education and health services.
“I will get back into power, that is why I want Ame to come and stand with me.”

  • Sorry to say but the free education policy by PNC is laughable. Teacher to students ratio doubled and classrooms overcrowded hence teachers stressed out. High risk spread of airborne deceases. Teacher do not have time for slow learners. Do not only preach it, ensure your children are part of schooling system to drive the policy. Pointless if you are sending your children to prestigious schools, whilst preaching this policy to your humble and simple village people. Free education would be best suited to remote and rural areas. There should be no free education in all major towns and cities schools, period. All colleges and Universities should have subsidy policy across the board.

  • Most of the Service delivery in Goroka are paid by the Tax Payers.
The new Infrastructure developments (New Terminal, Hospitals and etc) are funded by donor countries (It doesn’t matter who is the Government of the day these Development Projects are still going to come into effect).
However, the government of the day usually implement the project since they are in power and will always take credit for it (For instance; that’s what the PNC did during the past couple of years). Don’t deceive the people, toktok stret.
The free education policy is a failed policy. Too many drop outs, low reading and comprehension skills right from Primary to the Tertiary Level.
The level of Education is not like what it was before.
There must be an overhaul of this failed policy.
