PNG Ports gives K8, 879 for Cheshire Services’ new driver

THE PNG Ports Corporation has given K8,879 to Cheshire Disability Services to help pay for a driver for the organisation.
The money will go towards the driver’s wages for a year.
Ports chief executive officer Brian Riches said the sponsorship was part of its community service obligations.
He said the assistance provided an opportunity for Ports to engage and take part effectively in the growth of the association.
The disability services, formerly known as the Cheshire Homes, now has its first ever five-year strategic plan (2011-15), which was launched last December.
The plan broadly reflects the government’s development plans and priorities as well as the re-birth of Cheshire’s new identity, including the improvement of lives and independence of at least 200 persons with disabilities.
Riches congratulated the association for having a strategic plan that complemented the government’s vision of improving the lives and independence of people with disabilities.
He encouraged the corporate community to help in making a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities.
Riches said: “PNG Ports is proud to be associated with such organisations as it displays our commitment in providing equal opportunities in our workplace.
“We have three employees with disabilities working in our head office.”
The corporation 2009 and 2010 respectively sponsored the Paralympics Committee with K10,000 towards sending a team to the Winter Games in Australia as well as the Arafura Games together with airfares for one team member at a cost of K7,000 to the Beijing Games.
