THE Papua New Guinea booth at the recent 2012 Yeosu Expo in Seoul, South Korea, scooped the best creative display award.
Of the 104 countries that took part, PNG came behind Japan and the United Arab Emirates, which scored gold and silver respectively.
An elated Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru received the news from the country’s ambassador to South Korea, Bill Veri, who provided on the ground leadership for PNG’s participation.
Veri expressed excitement at the award and the cooperation and level of commitment of the PNG delegation throughout the exposition.
In a statement, Maru said the concentrated focus by key government officials ensured PNG fared well during the exposition and its participation at the roadshow was overwhelming.
The theme of the expo was “Living ocean and coast: Diversity of resources and sustainable activities”.
It aimed for countries to exhibit and showcase the importance of the sea and the coastal environments with a view to imparting knowledge and sharing experiences towards promoting sustainable use of resources from the sea and the protection of coastlines for the future.
Maru said the expo was an opportunity for countries to showcase their marketable and competitive products to the world and promote PNG as an ideal investment destination.
