PNG can become successful like Punjab

PUNJAB province in India has a surface area of 1.53 percent which is nine times smaller than PNG.
PNG has 462,840 sq km and a population of over seven million. India’s population is 1300 million and the population of Punjab is 2.3 percent of India (less than half of PNG).
India in total is seven times bigger than PNG.
Punjab was poor and lacked development some 10 to 20 years ago. Today Punjab is prosperous and progressing in agriculture development.
Punjab ranks top in India in wheat production, ranks 4th in rice production, ranks 5th in milk production.
It is nicknamed the “Granary of India” and “Bread basket of India”. It currently provides free kitchen for over 500,000 people.
The success of Punjab’s economic growth has been attributed to research and development, awareness and promotion, training and education, infrastructure, financial institution support, mechanisation, farmer cooperatives, government policies and support, international collaboration.
PNG’s former chief inspector of mines, Mohan Singh, told participants of the recent agriculture summit that Papua New Guinea could be like Punjab if everyoneworked hard and supported each other.
“It is not a big deal.
“If Punjab can become wealthy and prosperous, why not PNG, which has enough natural resources, land, water, good climate, everything.”
